SUMMARY:Wessex League 2023 - Winnersh
DESCRIPTION:Booking opens Tuesday August 8th at 12pm and closes Friday Sept
ember 8th at 6pm\nThe UK's first HEMA Tournament League returns for 2023.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year\, The Renaissance Sword Club
will be hosting the first leg of the 2023 Wessex League. The Renaissance S
word Club specialises in Rapier and Sword &amp\; Buckler techniques with c
lasses held in Surrey and Berkshire. For more information about RSC\, head
over to their website at: https://www.renaissanceswordclub.com/\nWe will
 be running 8 competitions (4 Open\, 2 women's &amp\; 2 beginners)\n\n Ope
 n Longsword\n Open Rapier &amp\; Dagger\n Open Sabre\n Open Sword &amp\
 ; Buckler\n Women's+ Longsword\n Women's+ Sword &amp\; Buckler\n Beginn
ers' Longsword\n Beginners' Sword &amp\; Buckler\n\nIf you miss out on ti
ckets for a particular tournament there is a waiting list which we will of
fer tickets to as and when they drop out. We recommend registering for any
other tournaments you are interested in\, and then filling out this form:
Wessex Winnersh Waiting List Form\n\nNote: The beginners and women's tour
naments run alongside each other with opposite weapons\, and you cannot co
mpete in two events running at the same time\, so please take care when bo
oking not to choose the two that clash. Please see below for entry criteri
 a.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\n\n&nbsp\;\nRules &amp\; Equipment\nPlease be sure to re
ad the tournament rules and minimum required equipment requirements. It is
your responsibility to make sure you have the correct equipment for the e
vent - if you do not have sufficient or appropriate equipment you will not
be allowed to fence in the tournament. If you are missing particular item
s please contact us and we may be able to arrange something to be borrowed
.\n\nWomen's+ Tournament Entries\nThe women’s category in HEMA tournamen
ts was originally created to provide meaningful challenges for women. The
ultimate aim of providing them has been to: allow fencers to test their sk
ills in a situation without routine physical disadvantages\; understand th
eir progress relative to their peers year on year\; give greater access to
tournaments to an under-represented gender in our sport\; ensure people r
ealise that their gender does not prevent them from participating in HEMA.
\n\nWhile the primary intent in the past has been to support women\, we re
cognise that many of considerations above apply equally to many non-binary
fencers as well. Therefore\, this tournament is open to:\n  a) Women (fo
r the avoidance of doubt: cis or trans)\n  b) Any non-binary fencers who
feel the issues above also apply to them\, and that their presence in the
tournament wouldn’t detract from the aims in regards to women\n\nWe reco
gnise that there are a wide range of non-binary genders\, and not all of t
hem will feel comfortable participating in the women’s tournament. It is
entirely up to the fencer in question whether they think the Women's+ is
suitable for them. The Open tournaments are all open to any gender. \n\nB
eginners' Tournament Entries\n\n\nWhen Wessex was first created\, there wa
s a limited competitive scene in the UK\, and most of the competitors were
relatively new.  Every year we have seen a higher standard of fencing fr
om our regulars and more people come from further away to participate in o
ur events. This is fantastic\, but has meant that it is harder for new fen
cers who have never competed to join in with the event and participate. Fo
r this reason we have decided to include 2 small beginners tournaments thi
s year.\n\nThe beginners' tournaments are open to any gender. While we are
not putting strict rules on "beginners"\, as a rule of thumb if you have
less than 2 years HEMA experience and have never made it out of the pools\
, the beginners should be perfect for you. Some fencers may still consider
themselves a beginner even after this point - if you are unsure\, speak t
o your instructor or the Wessex team.\n\nIf you are a regular competitor\,
instructor\, and/or have multiple years of martial arts &amp\; HEMA exper
ience\, likely the Opens are a better fit for you.\n\nYou may not book bot
h the beginner tournament and the open tournaments of the same weapon. Yo
u may book the women's tournaments and the beginners' tournaments of the s
ame weapon\, as long as you are not booking two tournaments running at the
  same time.\nVenue:\nThe Forest School\nRobin Hood Lane\, Winnersh\,\nWoki
ngham\, Berkshire\, RG41 5NE\nThe school is walking distance from Winnersh
train station which has a direct line from Waterloo\, or via Reading. If
driving it's off Junction 10 on the M4 and there is parking available on s
ite. Changing facilities are available on site.\nMeals and refreshments:\n
